My family moved to Sacramento in the 1950's when I was 7 years old. We lived near the American River and Watt Avenue, which was only two lanes at that time. The current Highway 50 did not exist, and the old Highway 50 actually ran along Folsom Blvd from Sacramento to Folsom. The current river levee system was not yet built.

As children we loved to ride our bikes down to the river near Watt Avenue where we played, caught polliwogs in jars, and had a carefree childhood. We also rode our bikes up to Arden Town Center at the corner of Watt Avenue and Fair Oaks Blvd, where the "five and dime" store had wooden counters and bins with penny candies.

But my favorite pastime was just riding my bike around my neighborhood with my Lloyd transistor radio hanging from the handlebars playing the music of the 50's and 60's. I no longer have that childhood bike, but after 60 years I still have the radio! I have ridden bikes all of my life and now enjoy riding with my grandchildren and my rescue dogs. Riding bikes always makes me happy.
