50 Bikes for 50 Kids Awardees for 2019

North Natomas Jibe is pleased to announce the 50 Bikes for 50 Kids 2019 bike recipients. These students were nominated by community members based on their demonstration of the following character traits: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. A volunteer committee read and reviewed many, many nominations to select fifty students who will join volunteers on January 21, 2019 to build their very own brand-new bicycle.

Meet this year’s bike recipients by reading what makes these kids so special, as told by the adults who nominated them.


Aaliyah Gaffney
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 11

Aaliyah is an excellent student and person. She is someone who sets goals and will work tirelessly to achieve them without giving up. She is always ready to put 100% into her work to be successful, overcoming any obstacle in her path.

 

Aaron Patterson
School: H. Allen Hight
Grade: 5

Aaron is always willing to put others above himself, care for his fellow classmates, and has repeatedly helped his classmates through academic, social, and emotional struggles. Recently, he was voted to be a class representative for student council.

 

Adam Reysner
School: Natomas Charter, LE
Grade: 8

Adam is an enthusiastic worker and a great team player who gets along with anyone he is grouped with. He has a strong engineering-driven mind and displays a natural curiosity for everything around him. His positive attitude and hard work make him a joy to have in class.

 

Alaiya Smith
School: Natomas Charter
Grade: 8

Alaiya demonstrates caring by always participating in class and sharing her ideas. She cares about our class and her terrific ideas make it a better place for all. She makes suggestions in a respectful manner and has a mature perspective; seeing the big picture in ways that many her age do not.

 

Alexandria Ansell
School: NP3 High School
Grade: 9

Alexandria is a vibrant, loyal and caring student. She is hard working and always puts others' needs above her own. In team projects, she takes on the role of peacemaker. She is always concerned for others and their feelings and helps everyone to be involved. In short, she is a rock star!

 

Alona Mahomedova
School: Natomas Middle School
Grade: 8

Alona is new to the US and has worked diligently to learn English quickly. She translates her classwork from English to Russian and back again, so she can learn the content while improving her English. She works twice as hard as her classmates to complete her homework and does so without complaint.

 

Alyssa Warnke
School: Natomas Charter, PFAA
Grade: 10

Aly is continually on her school's honor roll and is in Honors classes at high school. She volunteers regularly and always follows through on her word. She jumps into new situations with a loving spirit and steps outside of her comfort zone to help others. She is optimistic about new people and friends.

 

Angela Chow
School: Natomas Charter
Grade: 12

Angela is an amazing young woman who tirelessly works to make herself and others' lives better by volunteering and helping in her community. She is involved in numerous clubs including being president of the Taiko Club. She helps in the family café and is an amazing artist.

 

Carley Lewitz
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 9

Carley is a member of Girl Scouts, where she has shown a caring attitude by making donations to animal shelters and putting together holiday stockings for those less fortunate. She has gained respect and shown integrity while being a Peer Mediator and member of numerous organizations.

 

Chris Holden
School: Natomas Middle School
Grade: 8

Chris is never one to give up. Chris has moved into the Honors program through hard work and dedication. Their positive attitude influences all those around, and they succeed despite adversity. This award will allow Chris to be even more independent, providing more freedom and enjoyment.

 

Colton Doute
School: Westlake Charter School
Grade: 6

Colton is one of the few kids who can engage individuals of all ages. He is very respectful of those around him and offers a positive spin on events. He always brings the mood up whenever he is around. Colton always listens and gently encourages those around him to do so as well.

 

Dennis King
School: Natomas Middle School
Grade: 6

Dennis shows great respectfulness, politeness and kindness. He will drop everything to help another person out. He is extremely polite and greets everyone with a "good morning!" He is kind to others and always appreciative.

 

Diego Ruiz
School: Natomas Charter School, PACT Academy
Grade: 5

Diego continues to exceed his teacher's expectations. He is often seen smiling. He has proven his strong character by emphasizing the importance of being honest. He always makes time for others, especially his younger brother, and has a passion for helping people, animals and the environment.

 

Edward Adams
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 10

Edward has been an amazing volunteer for our leadership and football teams. Even when he has struggled, he finds a way to be of service to others. The coaches are so grateful for his hard work, great attitude and commitment to help the team.

 

Eleanor Ingram
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 12

Eleanor is one of those students that simply shines, and her light is noticeable from the moment you meet her. She is polite, friendly, honest, and outgoing. She has a consistently positive attitude, and her positivity is absolutely contagious.

 

Elijah Thomas
School: Westlake Charter School
Grade: 5

Elijah is a very caring boy. He helps others succeed in the classroom, encouraging them to follow instructions. He is respected by his peers and adults alike. The power of a caring peer can have an amazing effect on the culture of the whole classroom, and Elijah is a big part of that!

 

Garrett Izumi
School: Natomas Charter School, Star Academy
Grade: 5

Garrett is an incredibly well-rounded student who works hard. I can trust and depend that Garrett will always do the right thing and encourage his classmates to do the same, even when I am out of the classroom. He demonstrates a high level of respect and receives it from the people around him.

 

Ian Young
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 9

Ian is very kindhearted and really strives to do well. He perseveres through challenges and works hard to succeed. I hope this award shows Ian how proud we are of him. This bike will help him be more independent and self-sufficient.

 

Jada Co
School: Natomas Charter School, PFAA
Grade: 12

Jada is bright, energetic, dedicated and well-rounded. She is active in an assortment of extracurricular activities and is respected as a leader. She is always willing to help others when they are struggling. She is an inspiration and is always looking for opportunities to share her talents and give back.

 

Jakob Brooks
School: Natomas Charter School
Grade: 8

Jakob is a mentor who goes above and beyond what is expected of him. He leads by example, stays positive and models good behavior when other students are struggling. He always greets me with a smile and a high-five. He is such an amazing human being.

 

Jared Chavez
School: Heron School
Grade: 5

Jared is polite and collaborates with his peers in a calm and encouraging manner. His words make students feel welcome and show his level of fairness. He asks for help when needed and has a positive attitude. His perseverance makes him a great role model for his peers.

 

Jasleen Gidda
School: Heron School
Grade: 5

Jasleen embraces and thrives when given a challenge. She finds multiple solutions to a problem and will articulate her ideas and explanations well in front of an audience. She goes above and beyond all expectations for her schoolwork and inspires others to do so as well.

 

Jonathon Bisrat
School: Natomas Park Elementary
Grade: 5

Jonathon is a fifth-grade leader. He is kind and very friendly. He helps his friends make wise decisions, even when it is difficult. He was recently nominated to become a school conflict manager. Over the past three years I have known him, Jonathon has proven to be very motivated.

 

Julius Moore
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 9

Julius is someone who displays amazing character every day. He is always polite and willing to work hard, even when circumstances may be difficult. He exemplifies the kind of grit we look for in all our students.

 

Katelyn Thomas
School: Natomas Charter School, PFAA
Grade: 9

Katelyn shows respect to everyone and is a role model to her peers. She excels at treating others fairly, even during competitive games and activities. She is one of the most responsible students I have ever had the pleasure of teaching.

 

Katie Sue Clark

Grade: 7

Katie Sue has continued to overcome and excel through any challenge. She always shows up to school prepared and ready to give it her best. She stands up, leads and steps out to take risks, even when she is not sure of how she will be received. She is brave and works hard every day.

 

Kourtne Garrison

Grade: 12

Kourtne is the epitome of integrity. She owns her actions, takes responsibility and is mature beyond her years. She is currently taking two college courses on top of her senior year classes, Senior Project, an internship with the district attorney, all while also holding down a job.

 

Leo Gorski
School: Heron School
Grade: 5

Leo is polite, respectful, empathetic and strives for the best. He is quick to recognize students for their contributions and helps students who are in need academically and socially. He has a positive attitude and a strong drive to inspire and help others.

 

Loren Manerchia
School: Natomas Park Elementary
Grade: 5

Loren works hard in school, pays attention and shows respect to her teachers, staff and peers. She also has remarkable common sense. She shows care and concern for her family, friends and classmates. Her communication skills and sense of humor make her a welcome addition to any circle of friends.

 

Lucy Kohnen
School: Heron School
Grade: 5

Lucy is driven to excel and does so with a kind heart and an awareness of those around her. She collaborates well with her team by listening and acknowledging their ideas. She sees the best in others and will congratulate her peers for doing a good job.

 

Madison Hause
School: Natomas Charter School, PFAA
Grade: 10

Madison cares for the Sacramento community by volunteering at local charities. Each year, she looks forward to gathering donations and delivering holiday stockings to people at shelters. She can always be counted on, is optimistic about each new situation and brings a positive outlook to every event.

 

Malosi Matavale
School: Natomas Charter School, PACT Academy
Grade: 6

Malosi is one of the kindest, most thoughtful young people I have ever met. He is always there with a smile, a compliment or an offer of assistance. He runs ahead to open doors and asks if you need help in the classroom. He always tries hard, does his best and never gets frustrated.

 

Mariela Villalobos
School: Natomas Middle School
Grade: 8

Mariela is a wonderful student. She is always kind and helpful when the opportunity arises, despite the challenges of speaking English as her second language. She is constantly demonstrating her willingness to grow as a student and acquire stronger language skills.

 

Mikayla Bell
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 10

Mikayla has been showing a caring attitude while serving her community for many years. She has committed to fostering over a dozen animals, even traveling to Guatemala to assist with the care of stray cats and dogs.

 

Niko Hernandez
School: Heron School
Grade: 8

Niko is always friendly, sincere and compassionate towards others. If someone is hurt, he will do anything to help them. He has overcome many obstacles in his life and demonstrates perseverance on a daily basis.

 

Patricia Nwaulu
School: Natomas Middle School
Grade: 6

Patricia is an exceptional young woman who really shines in the area of community service. She has been a reading tutor for students for the last two years. She continues to make her mark on the world as a silent hero. Patricia has so much greatness within her!

 

Preston Kiene
School: Heron School
Grade: 5

Whether it's inside or outside the classroom, Preston loves to learn. He is respectful and kind, always recognizing others. He has a great sense of humor and brings creative ideas to the class. He is a self-motivated student who is ready to learn about the world around him.

 

Rafael Chavez
School: Natomas Park Elementary
Grade: 5

Rafael is a kind and thoughtful young person who exemplifies initiative, respect and joy. He consistently completes his assignments and raises his hand to volunteer. Rafael is exuberant and not afraid to live life to the fullest.

 

Robert Goldhammer
School: Natomas Charter School, PACT Academy
Grade: 7

Robert serves on the school leadership team. He takes responsibility seriously and can be trusted to do whatever task he is given. He looks for opportunities at school to assist and serve others. He is a model citizen and is loved by people of all ages. He is respected by his peers and appreciated by his teachers.

 

Sabrina Alanis
School: Heron School
Grade: 6

Sabrina is a kind and selfless girl with a heart of gold. She taught us about feral cats and created a spreadsheet to help care for the 20+ stray cats at Heron School. She helps collect donations for the Sacramento Food Bank and for women and children at WEAVE.

 

Scarlett Soriano
School: Natomas Park Elementary
Grade: 5

Scarlett is an exceptional student who demonstrates many positive characteristics. She shows respect to both students and teachers. She is trustworthy and has integrity, I can count on her to make good decisions. She is caring and shows kindness to other students. She is an outstanding student!

 

Shamara Menefee
School: Natomas Charter School
Grade: 7

Shamara is incredibly respectful. She listens in class, participates in projects and speaks to her peers. She stays on task with her projects and holds herself accountable. Shamara is a wonderful citizen of our school and classroom.

 

Simran Dhindsa
School: Inderkum High School
Grade: 12

Simran demonstrates excellence in academics and has proven to be a leader among her peers, frequently volunteering to lead tutorial sessions. She never fails to have a smile on her face and a positive attitude.

 

Steven Hibbs

Steven is always helping in the morning by watching out for younger kids, making sure they are occupied and safe. He is caring and compassionate, always available to help without complaint. He is a wonderful young man.

 

Tammy Tran

Grade: 10

Tammy is always asking how she can help her peers. She helps her parents with the English language and cultural differences. She is always trying to give back to her community. She walks to school every day, showing up early and staying late because of all the activities she participates in.

 

Tereska King

Grade: 6

Tereska demonstrates kindness, loyalty and helpfulness. She helps every morning with the Walk to School program and takes care of the younger children. She is always positive and eager to volunteer.

 

Thomas Collins
School: Westlake Charter School
Grade: 7

Thomas has a strong sense of responsibility and frequently helps take care of his younger siblings. He is a wonderful role model, leading by quiet example and making good decisions. He is one of the most respectful kids I have ever met.

 

Vallery Romo Plascencia
School: Natomas Park Elementary
Grade: 5

Vallery worked hard to step outside her comfort zone and learn how to ride a bicycle. She was respectful and responsible during the lessons, never giving up! She wants to promote clean air by using a bicycle for transportation.

 

Yi Shen
School: Natomas Middle School
Grade: 8

Yi is new to the United States and is a beginning English language learner. He always participates and is very motivated to continue improving. He takes responsibility for understanding lessons by asking questions and communicating through other means. He works hard and never ceases to amaze me.

 

Yniah Guilford

Grade: 6

Yniah definitely has a piece of my heart. She is one of the most caring, loyal students I know. She always raises her hand to help me or a classmate out. She loves any opportunity to be a leader. When someone puts another student down, she tells the "bully" to stop, and then checks in on the other student.
